Vertigo treatment in Reno

Vertigo is the feeling that you or the room is spinning. It's often brought on by rolling over in bed, looking up, or bending down. We assess where your dizziness is coming from and treat common causes, and we'll tell you right away if it needs a medical doctor.

What causes vertigo?

The most common cause is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Tiny crystals in the inner ear drift out of place and send your brain the wrong signals about movement, causing short bursts of spinning with certain head positions.

Dizziness can also come from the neck, often after a whiplash injury or with neck pain and stiffness. That's called cervicogenic dizziness.

Common symptoms

  • Short bursts of spinning when rolling over, looking up, or bending down
  • Feeling off balance or unsteady
  • Nausea during a spinning episode
  • Dizziness along with neck pain or stiffness

How we treat it

We start with a careful history and tests to find the likely cause of your dizziness. Depending on what we find, care can include:

  • Gentle head positioning maneuvers for BPPV to move the inner ear crystals back into place
  • Chiropractic care and soft tissue work when the dizziness is coming from the neck
  • Balance and neck exercises you can do at home

Where we see you

We have two offices, both inside Parkway Athletic Club and open to everyone, no gym membership needed. South Reno is on Double Diamond Parkway, close to Damonte Ranch and South Meadows. Sparks is on East Lincoln Way, near The Outlets at Legends.

Questions

When should I see a medical doctor instead?

Call 911 if dizziness comes on suddenly with double vision, slurred speech, a drooping face, weakness or numbness, trouble walking, or a severe headache. These can be signs of a stroke. See a medical doctor first for dizziness with hearing loss, ear pain, or fainting.

What happens at the first visit?

We talk through your history and check how you move to find the source of the problem, then explain what's going on and your options. New patient visits take about 45 to 60 minutes.

Is chiropractic care covered by insurance?

We accept Medicare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Tricare, and many more, plus workers' compensation and auto accident claims. Call us and we'll check your benefits before you start.

Do I need a referral?
