What causes neck pain?
Most neck pain comes from tight muscles and stiff joints, often from long hours looking down at a phone or computer. Poor sleep positions, stress, and injuries like whiplash can also set it off.
- Forward head posture from screens and desk work
- Tight, knotted muscles in the neck and upper back
- Stiff joints in the neck
- Car accidents and other injuries
Common symptoms
- Stiffness and trouble turning your head
- Aching between the shoulder blades
- Headaches that start at the base of the skull
- Pain, tingling, or numbness down the arm
How we treat it
We check your neck, upper back, and shoulders to find the source. Then we build a plan that can include:
- Chiropractic adjustments to restore motion in the neck and upper back
- Soft tissue work to release tight muscles and knots
- Focused shockwave therapy for stubborn muscle knots and trigger points
- Cervical (neck) decompression when a disc or pinched nerve is involved
- Corrective exercises and posture guidance for your desk, car, and sleep
Where we see you
We have two offices, both inside Parkway Athletic Club and open to everyone, no gym membership needed. South Reno is on Double Diamond Parkway, close to Damonte Ranch and South Meadows. Sparks is on East Lincoln Way, near The Outlets at Legends.
Questions
What happens at the first visit?
We talk through your history and check how you move to find the source of the problem, then explain what's going on and your options. New patient visits take about 45 to 60 minutes.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Most people feel little to no discomfort. Some feel mild soreness for a day or so afterward, similar to after a workout. We always explain what we're doing first, and gentler options are available.
When should I see a medical doctor instead?
Call 911 if neck pain comes with a sudden severe headache, trouble speaking or seeing, dizziness, or weakness on one side of the body. See a medical doctor first after a serious accident, or if you have a stiff neck with a fever.
Is chiropractic care covered by insurance?
We accept Medicare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Tricare, and many more, plus workers' compensation and auto accident claims. Call us and we'll check your benefits before you start.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed. You can book directly with Dr. Covert online or by phone.
