What is an adjustment?
When a joint in your spine or limbs isn't moving well, the muscles around it tighten and it can become painful. An adjustment, also called spinal manipulation, uses a precise, quick movement to restore motion to that joint. Many people feel looser and move more easily afterward.
The popping sound you sometimes hear is gas being released from the fluid inside the joint, the same as cracking your knuckles. It isn't bones moving out of or into place, and an adjustment works whether or not you hear it.

Gentle options
Not everyone wants or needs a quick adjustment. We always explain what we're going to do first, and we can use gentler techniques with less force for older adults, kids, pregnant patients, or anyone who prefers them.
Is it safe?
Adjustments are generally very safe when done by a trained, licensed chiropractor. The most common side effect is mild soreness for a day or so. We examine you first, and conditions like fractures, severe osteoporosis, or certain blood vessel problems mean we'll choose a different approach.
