What is sciatica?
The sciatic nerve runs from your lower back, through the buttock, and down the back of each leg. When something presses on or irritates it, the pain can travel along the whole path of the nerve. The most common cause is a bulging or herniated disc in the lower back.
Common symptoms
- Pain from the lower back or buttock down the back of the leg
- Tingling, pins and needles, or numbness in the leg or foot
- Pain that's worse when sitting, coughing, or sneezing
- Pain usually on one side
What causes it
- A bulging or herniated disc
- Narrowing around the nerve from wear and tear
- Tight muscles in the buttock pressing on the nerve
- Long hours sitting and heavy lifting
How we treat it
We test your back, hips, nerves, and strength to find what's irritating the nerve. Then we build a plan that can include:
- Spinal decompression to take pressure off an irritated disc
- Chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work for the back and hips
- Corrective exercises that ease nerve pain and strengthen your core and hips
Where we see you

My senior father also sees Dr. Covert and is very happy with results relating to neuropathy relief in his feet and arthritis relief in his shoulders! Do not hesitate to book an appointment!
