What is cupping?
Cupping places cups on the skin and creates suction that gently lifts the skin and the tissue under it. Many people find it eases tight, sore muscles and helps them move more comfortably, without needles or medication.
Two ways we use it
- Dry cupping: the cups stay in place over tight areas for a few minutes
- Sliding cupping: we apply oil or lotion and glide the cups along the muscle, like a deep, moving massage
What to expect
You'll feel a pulling sensation as the cups lift the skin. Most people find it relaxing, though very tight spots can feel intense. We adjust the suction to your comfort.
Cupping often leaves round marks where the cups were. They're normal and usually fade within a few days to about a week. If you have an event coming up, tell us and we'll plan around it.
What it helps with
- Tight, sore muscles in the back, neck, and shoulders
- Muscle tension from training, work, or long hours at a desk
- Stiffness that makes it harder to move
Where we see you
We have two offices, both inside Parkway Athletic Club and open to everyone, no gym membership needed. South Reno is on Double Diamond Parkway, close to Damonte Ranch and South Meadows. Sparks is on East Lincoln Way, near The Outlets at Legends.
Questions
Can I book just a cupping session?
Yes. Cupping is usually part of a soft tissue plan, but if a cupping session on its own is what you want, we're happy to do that. Call us and we'll set it up.
Who shouldn't get cupping?
Tell us if you take blood thinners, bruise easily, are pregnant, or have a bleeding disorder, a skin condition, or an open wound. We'll check whether cupping is right for you or choose a different technique.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed. You can book directly with Dr. Covert online or by phone.
