Why sports injuries happen
Most sports injuries come from doing too much, too soon: a jump in mileage, weight, or practice time before the body has adapted. Weak or tight areas, old injuries, and poor movement habits make it more likely. Finding and fixing those is how you keep the injury from coming back.
How we treat it
We look at the injured area and how you move in your sport. Then we build a plan that can include:
- Focused shockwave therapy to restart healing in stubborn tendons and tissue
- Soft tissue work and adjustments to restore motion
- Corrective exercises that rebuild strength and fix the weak links
- A step-by-step plan to return to training and competition
Where we see you
We have two offices, both inside Parkway Athletic Club and open to everyone, no gym membership needed. South Reno is on Double Diamond Parkway, close to Damonte Ranch and South Meadows. Sparks is on East Lincoln Way, near The Outlets at Legends.
Questions
Do I have to stop training?
Not always. We'll help you find what you can keep doing safely while you heal, so you lose as little fitness as possible.
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
Richard Wolf, the maker of our PiezoWave2T, describes the treatment as gentle and for the most part pain-free. Most people feel a firm tapping, and we adjust the intensity to your comfort. No needles or anesthesia.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually 3 to 6 sessions, each about 10 to 20 minutes. Dr. Covert will map out your plan at your first visit based on your exam.
When should I see a medical doctor instead?
See a medical doctor or go to urgent care for a possible broken bone, a dislocated joint, a sudden pop with fast swelling, being unable to put weight on a limb, or any head injury with confusion, headache, or dizziness.
Is shockwave covered by insurance?
Shockwave therapy isn't covered by insurance. Call us for current pricing, and we'll go over the cost before you start.

Do I need a referral?
