Common causes of knee pain
Jumper's knee (patellar tendinitis) is pain in the tendon just below the kneecap, usually from running, jumping, or squatting. Knee arthritis is wear in the joint that causes stiffness and aching, often worse after rest or a long day. Weak hips and thighs can add strain to both.
Common symptoms
- Pain just below the kneecap when you jump, squat, or climb stairs
- Stiffness when you first get up or after sitting
- Aching after activity or at the end of the day
- Pain going down stairs
How we treat it
We look at how your hips, knees, and ankles move together to find what's overloading the knee. Then we build a plan around three steps:
- Focused shockwave therapy for tendon pain and arthritis
- Soft tissue work on the thigh and hip muscles to ease tension
- Corrective exercises that strengthen your hips and thighs and improve how you move
Where we see you
We have two offices, both inside Parkway Athletic Club and open to everyone, no gym membership needed. South Reno is on Double Diamond Parkway, close to Damonte Ranch and South Meadows. Sparks is on East Lincoln Way, near The Outlets at Legends.

Questions
Does shockwave therapy hurt?
Richard Wolf, the maker of our PiezoWave2T, describes the treatment as gentle and for the most part pain-free. Most people feel a firm tapping, and we adjust the intensity to your comfort. No needles or anesthesia.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually 3 to 6 sessions, each about 10 to 20 minutes. Dr. Covert will map out your plan at your first visit based on your exam.
When should I see a medical doctor instead?
If your knee swelled up quickly after an injury, locks or gives way, is hot and red with a fever, or you can't put weight on it, see a medical doctor first. Calf pain and swelling can be a blood clot and needs urgent care.
Is shockwave covered by insurance?
Shockwave therapy isn't covered by insurance. Call us for current pricing, and we'll go over the cost before you start.
